Artist Intro: Chuck Close

The first artist I would like to talk about is Chuck Close.

Chuck Thomas Close is an American painter and photographer. Close was born July 5, 1940. Close achieved his fame as a photorealist. In 1988 Close had a sever spinal collapse which left him paralyzed dispite this tragedy he still continued to paint. One of the things that made Chuck Close famous is his photo-realistic techniques used in his large portraits. Not only was Close and excellent photo-realist but also a Master Printmaker. Throughout the 80's and early 90's he did many collaborations with other printmakers. Close along with his collaborators changed the traditional  form of printmaking.

I discovered Chuck Close about 3 years when I started taking art classes at my high school.
When my teacher showed me one is his works ( I believe its titled "Bob" ) I thought it was a photograph.
I was amazed when I found out that it was actually a painting. Immediately when I got home I look up other works done by Close.
Ever since that day the way that I perceived art was changed. seeing his work raised the bar for me as an artist. seeing him made me what to be better.
Not only did it change the way I looked at art but also the world around me. My focused increases when watching movies, listening to music and even classroom discussions. I haven't done so yet but one day I plan on doing my own Chuck Close painting.
